Turbine and compressor design

Goals and content

Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to:

  • describe special designs of turbomachinery, e.g. radial machines and supersonic compressors
  • explain and evaluate the operation of components and machines
  • interpret and apply the underlying physical laws
  • design individual components in a practical manner
Course content:

The lecture Turbine and Compressor Design deepens the knowledge imparted in Thermal Turbomachinery I+II.

  • Thermal turbomachinery, general overview
  • Design of a turbomachine, design criteria and development process
  • Radial machines
  • Supersonic compressors
  • Combustion chamber
  • Multi-shaft machines
Prerequisites:
