Task

For several years now, multiphase flows at the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery (ITS) have been numerically investigated by means of the mesh-free Smoothed-Particle-Hydrodynamics-(SPH) method. Despite its natural advantages for multiphase problems, it is nowadays well-known that turbulent flows are a serious challenge for SPH.

Consequently, this thesis aims at the implementation and validation of two different turbulence models into the commercial SPH-Code PreonLab. The models should be compared and evaluated in terms of how they affect the numerical dissipation process.

The thesis is in collaboration with Fifty2 in Freiburg. The applicant should be interested in complex physics of fluid flows and high performance computing.
