The Institute for Thermal Turbomachinery Was Represented at the GPPS Technical Conference 2026 with Four Presentations

At this year’s GPPS Technical Conference 2026 in Montréal, Canada, the Institute for Thermal Turbomachinery at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) presented the latest research findings in the divisions of cooling, combustion, and computational fluid dynamics.

Of particular note are the four scientific papers by our colleagues:

  • Riko Haase: “Effects of Hole Arrangement on Flow Characteristics in an Impingement/Effusion Cooling Setup Investigated by Stereoscopic PIV”—an experimental investigation of flow characteristics in an impingement/effusion cooling system using stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).
  • Joel Arweiler: Data-Driven Early Prediction of Lean Blowout in Jet-A1–Hydrogen Flames Using UV Signals – the use of data-driven methods for the early detection of lean blowout in Jet-A1–hydrogen flames.
  • Marco Hahn: Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Characteristics in a Turbine Bottom Platform Cavity with Hot Gas Ingestion – an experimental investigation of heat transfer in a turbine bottom platform cavity under the influence of hot gas ingestion.
  • Matthias Haber: Numerical Investigation of Coolant Distribution in Gear Skiving – a numerical investigation of coolant distribution during gear skiving.

These presentations showcase the broad spectrum of research conducted at the institute—ranging from high-resolution experimental measurement methods to data-driven approaches in combustion research and numerical investigations of complex flow and cooling processes.

By participating in the international GPPS Technical Conference, the institute also underscores its active engagement with the international research community in the divisions of turbomachinery, energy, and propulsion technology.
