The annual ITS field trip took place again this year. In the week from 26.05. to 29.05. we enabled our students to participate in the accompanying field trip to the ITS main lectures "Thermal Turbomachinery" and "Hydraulic Fluid Machinery". With a total of 20 students, this year's field trip took us to the west and north of Germany to visit renowned companies in the energy and aviation industries. The companies visited were Siemens Energy in Mülheim an der Ruhr, MTU Maintenance in Hanover and Airbus in Hamburg, as well as the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen.
The start of the field trip took us to Siemens Energy in Mülheim an der Ruhr. There we gained exciting insights into the development and production of modern gas and steam turbines, generators and power plant technology. The insights into the production of large turbine systems and the presentation of current technologies and concepts in the Division of Modern Energy Supply were particularly impressive.
On the second day, we continued on to MTU Maintenance in Hanover, where we were given a comprehensive overview of the maintenance, servicing and repair of modern aircraft engines. During the guided tour of the various workshops, we were able to follow the individual work steps from disassembly and inspection through to assembly and final testing of the engines. The high precision requirements and complex test procedures in particular left a lasting impression.
The next stop was Airbus in Hamburg. During the tour, we learned about the different manufacturing and assembly processes for large passenger aircraft. Particularly impressive was the tour of the final assembly of the A320neo, where the individual work steps from the fuselage segment to the finished aircraft were clearly illustrated. Modern production technologies and current developments in the aviation industry were also presented. In addition, we were given a detailed tour of the Airbus Safety Promotion Center, which illustrates the development of aviation safety and demonstrates the measures and processes required to ensure the highest safety standards in aviation.
The field trip concluded with a visit to the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. During a guided tour of the former industrial site, the students gained interesting insights into the history of the Ruhr region and the development of the German industrial and energy sector. The combination of technical history and modern industrial culture was a successful conclusion to this year's field trip.
The field trip is an important addition to the content of our lectures, as it provides students with practical insights into industrial applications and various professional fields. At the same time, the joint trip offered numerous opportunities for professional and personal exchange within the group. As in previous years, the feedback from the students was consistently positive.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Siemens Energy, MTU Maintenance and Airbus for the exciting guided tours and friendly support. Without the great commitment of the companies involved, this year's field trip would not have been possible!
