Abstract

LES with the standard Smagorinsky model employing wall-functions and wall-resolving RANS calculations with the standard k-! model of Wilcox and the Spalart{Allmaras model were used to compute the °ow in asymmetric three-dimensional di®users (test case 13.2).
Using the same number of computational cells, the LES delivered very reasonable results in good agreement with experiments for both di®users. In contrast, the RANS calculations severely over-predicted the extent of the recirculation zone and yielded substantially less accurate results.
