Abstract

The flow around a street canyon was investigated by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurements.
The Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations were solved with the commercial CFD tool CFX 11.0 using various turbulence models. Of special interest was the sensitivity of the CFD results to the turbulence closure schemes employed. By using the same numerical method and obtaining a grid independent solution, the performance of the RANS models was assessed. The CFD results were validated with LDV measurements.
