Learning goals and contents

Learning Goals:

The students are able to:

  • use OpenFOAM
  • generate simple grids or import grids into OpenFOAM
  • choose and define appropriate boundary conditions
  • estimate numerical errors and asses them
  • judge turbulence models and select an appropriate model
  • simulate 2-phase flows using suitable models

  • Introduction to using Open Foam
  • Grid generation
  • Boundary conditions
  • Numerical errors
  • Discretization schemes
  • Turbulence models
  • Two phase flow - spray
  • Two Phase flow - Volume of Fluid method
Media:

A CD containing the course material will be handed out to the students

Prerequisits:
  • Fluid Dynamics
  • Course on numerical fluid mechanics

Recommendations:

  • Basic knowledge in LINUX
Workload:

5 days of 8 h = 40 h
